CAROLINE ISSA STYLE FEATURING KATIE ROWLAND JEWELLERY

There are a few people's style we admire and fashion editor Caroline Issa is no exception. So we have picked out our favourite Issa looks and will choose some pieces from the Spring/Summer Salome collection that it could go with.

Loving this pleated 3/4 length brown trousers, and how she used a simple thin belt to create a nipped in waistline. We would team this look with the Salome stacker rings, which feature inverted stones such as peridot, smoky quartz and citrines.

We love this image, it reminds us of summer and being able to wear frilly skirts without tights! This look is causal cool and a necklace would ruin the beautiful peach chiffon blouse- so it would look great with a cuff, like this gold one from the Salome collection. It adds a bit of edge without taking away from this wonderful outfit.

This soft lilac jumper paired with the edginess of the embellished black leather belt, would go well with the Salome drop earrings, lines with inverted amethyst stones, it would give a little sparkle to this look.

We hope some day to blog about Caroline Issa wearing Katie Rowland jewellery!

Who is your style hero?

ERIN O'CONNOR MODELS FOR 'HUNGER'-WEARS KATIE ROWLAND

We are in absolute awe and feeling inspired about this- none other than one of the greatest fashion photographers to walk this earth, Rankin, photographs the always stunning Erin O'Connor for HUNGER magazine.

The best part is that they used Katie Rowland jewellery for this sensual shoot, and many others featured in the first issue of the magazine.

Erin wears the smoky quartz knuckleduster ring, from the St Tropez collection.

Erin wears gold choker necklace. (below)

Special thanks to Rankin, Anna Hughes-Chamberlain for styling.

Other shoots in the magazine also used Katie Rowland, and we have to say the whole magazine itself it fantastic, definitely worth buying! It is so well put together, and visually as well as culturally rich content. One of the best débuts for a very long time.

Both images feature the fang earring (from the Lillith collection).

KATIE ROWLAND FEATURED IN HARPERS BAZAAR

Cannot believe it is already December!

Have you guys started your Christmas shopping? The best way to convince your folks to buy you some Katie Rowland Jewellery for Christmas is by telling them repeatedly: "It's the perfect stocking filler!". If that doesn't work send them an email with the link for the website and they will be sure to get the hint!

We are starting the month off with some great news.

It is always a pleasure when Katie Jewellery is used in photo-shoots, and this time magazine giants, and personal favourite, Harpers Bazaar have jumped on the KR bandwagon.

The shoot features the black rhodium topaz ring, which is styled for a 70s look. We are also loving the small gold belt with the burgundy dress- trés chic.

What else would you wear with this ring? What we love about it is that it goes with absolutely anything! Happy buying, form one shopaholic to another.

KATIE ROWLAND PIECE OF THE MONTH- NOVEMBER

It is always nice to show the fellow jewellery lovers pieces of the collection that they may have not have seen before. So here is a special piece to feast your eyes on...

This Lillith Enamel two finger ring was a hit at Fashion Week, when we showcased it the along with the up and coming spring collection (top secret!) EVERYONE was intrigued by the way the light hits the enamel and lights up the colours!

This piece is instinctively feminine yet it has an edginess to it- trademark Katie Rowland.

What is your favourite piece of jewellery by Katie Rowland?

ART ROCKS JEWELLERY EXHIBITION

Contemporary jewellery is always exciting , and in a new exhibition at the Shizaru Gallery in Mayfair, this is no exception. These pieces of jewellery should be referred to as more works of art, than anything else. The craftsmanship of each piece shows the vast talent out there in the field of jewellery design.

Curated by Jewellery expert Joana Hardy, the jewelleryexhibition will showcase contemporary work from designers such as ARK, Zoe Arnold, Leo De Vroomen and Fred Rich, as well as other international designers.

The exhibition opens on the 25th of November until the 28th of January so there is plenty of time to catch it, and who needs an excuse to look at pretty things and become a little bit more cultured at the same time? We sure don't.

ARK Lilies made with Madeira citrines and enamelled with 18 carat gold.

Ark Bees on a ruby ball earrings

Zoe Arnold Double fly ring,18ct gold and emerald druzys.

We won't give away too many of the images, as it is definitely worth checking out yourself! These are just small previews of the incredible talent at this exhibition.

MARILYN MONROE'S JEWELLERY

With the upcoming release of the film My week with Marilyn starring the beautiful and talented Michelle Williams (who has already been tipped for an Oscar for her portrayal of the infamous Hollywood icon) it seems Marilyn fever has hit everybody. Including us! What was there not to like? She was, after all, the woman who sang "Diamonds are a girls best friend" and my goodness wasn't she right?

Although like any other star, she had deep issues with her fame, she remained one of the most glamorous women to have walked onto the silver screen.

So we thought we would celebrate and join in the Marilyn appreciation society, by picking some of her most iconic, and our personal favourite jewellery moments.

One of the most recognisable images of Marilyn, wearing this gorgeous pear cut diamond pendant with a black silk cord. It is a simple designs, yet it says everything it needs to about this woman: classic, sophisticated and glamorous. It is interesting how the sharpness of the diamond's cut balances with the softness of the black silk cord. Sheer perfection.

These beautiful drop diamond earrings really stand out against the black setting. Along with her Jewellery lines hemline on her dress, with pearls, crystals and sterling silver links- this outfit screams star quality. Something that seemed to ooze from Marilyn. This is the kind of quiet confidence we image the Katie Rowland woman to have: always has her head held high, can wear the jewellery but won't let the jewellery wear her.

If Marilyn was still alive we would imagine she would fall hopelessly in love  with the Satori collection: so here below is the ring we think is fit for a star!

We cannot wait to watch the film what about you guys?

CELEB EMMY JEWELLERY- THE FAVOURITES

Big Hollywood awards shows are a really good place to jewellery spot. The celebrities go to extremes with their glamour and there are always some amazing choices- whether it was chosen by them or their stylists. So here are some of our favourite pieces from the T.V stars at the Emmy Awards 2011!

Fringe actress Anna Torv wears these Lorraine Shwartz stunners- we love how the earrings use the floral motif with the soft lilac to set off the silver outline. Absolutely gorgeous.

The beautiful Heidi Klum also wears Lorraine Schwart's design, and as always the model beauty works those earrings to the core! The floral theme seems to have been a favourite at this years awards ceremony, and Klum opts for these orange and red toned earrings with matching ring. We like the detail in the middle of the flower, really makes it stand out as a statement piece. Well done miss Klum!

Country Strong star Gwyneth Paltrow goes for a more understated look for her jewellery- her Neil Lane black onyx silver drop earrings, are stylish and bring out her eyes. They are an example of how to do jewellery without going over the top with statement pieces. We love how it goes with her lace outfit. Match made in heaven.

Which look was your favourite?

SATORI RING FEATURED IN STELLA MAGAZINE

Once again Katie Rowland jewellery has bee featured in Stella Magazine!

The gorgeous gold and diamond ring from the Satori collection was featured in one of the shopping pages, which looks amazing and has a real christmas vibe to it. We Love all the other jewellery on the shoot too, we love how they all complement each other. Getting us in the mood for the ever approaching christmas shopping season!

Hope you all like it!

ETERNAL BORGEZIE DIAMOND ENCRUSTED STILETTO

Hope everyone is having a good monday!

Every now and again you see creative collaborations between fashion and jewellery and most of the time, it is interesting and maybe even worth saving up for. However, sometimes, you have to question whether it would really be worth the money.

Take these Eternal Borgexie stilettos for example: they are made of solid gold and lined with 30 carat diamonds, the world's most expensive shoes!

Image coutesy of Eternal Bourgezie

They cost a whopping £100,000 and have red love heart designs on the soles and heels, just in case your feet didn't feel the love already.

Do you think it is worth it? Would you spend this amount of money to walk on solid gold?

I think i'll stick to diamonds for my fingers, ears and possibly on brooches, if i'm feeling fancy. Not sure it is the sort of thing we would wear- we'll stick to dreaming of Jimmy Choos thank you very much. They are way more within my price range than these Eternal Borgezies will ever be!

AUTUMN GLAMOUR

The days are getting shorter and the evenings longer. The temperature is dropping rapidly, and it's the time when we start to cave in, and let the effort to look good slip away like out humble summer. However, that is no excuse to let the glamour go; in fact it may actually help to keep the gloom of autumn away.

We love the summer sunshine (or the London equivalent which only comes in september!) but everyone has to admit there are definite advantages to autumn like warm cosy knits and huge furry coats with soft leather boots.

So here to help start that for you are some beautiful gothic inspired pieces we love, courtesy of Net-A-Porter teamed with some gorgeous Katie Rowland Jewellery.

We love this Zadig & Voltaire: Erin meets Zadig shearling coat. It is easy to get lost in black though so this St Tropez mystic topaz knuckleduster ring adds a touch of subtle colour, which is still in keeping with a dark angel look. Who says reaching for your wallet can't be stylish? we beg to differ with this ring!

This stunning Alexander Wang sheer shirt, won't keep you very warm, but who wouldn't want to sacrifice it for this beauty That is just a excuse to get another warm coat, as far as I'm concerned. In order to not steer attention away from the shirt, it would look great with some of the Lilith stacker rings, which comes in gold, rose gold and black vermeil.

These incredibly stunning (and warm) Alaïa boots will refresh any old kntwear tunic you have lying around from last winter, with the equally stunning Satori unity necklace, adding that little bit of sparkle we miss during these grey times.

So are you looking forward to swpping croopped tops for your woolly jumpers? Throw in a cup of tea and biscuits and we are sold.

GEMSTONE OF THE MONTH: OPAL IS FOR OCTOBER

Opal is the gemstone for the month of October and as well as being an incredibly entrancing stone, it has a rich cultural and historical background. Originally associated with good fortune, it was revered by cultures such as the Mayans and Aztecs, as a powerful stone with mystical properties.

The Australian people believed it brought luck in love; it also happens to be their national gemstone.

However by the 1800's the stone became a token of bad luck, with urban legends claiming that wearing the stone could lead to ill health and even start wars.

It comes in many different forms; Matrix Opal is dark black rock with beautiful flashes of greens and brown speckles. White Opal is perhaps one of the most recognisable forms, and is instantly recognisable because of its distinctive translucent look, with flickers of colour.

Another interesting fact about opals is that like diamonds, they are able to cut through glass! This illusive stone adds character to any piece of jewellery, with the flashes of colour providing a mysterious edge to each individual piece.

We think this stone would look great with some of the latest fashion trends we have seen. These vibrant Fire Opal earrings by Jean Scott-Moncrieff, add a subtle resonance to this stunning Micheal Van Der Ham outfit (or something similar-we can't all afford off the catwalk stuff!)

The warming blue hues of this Andean Opal and gold ring (also by Jean Scott-Moncrieff) would look great with eye popping colour blocking a la Jil Sander.

GLAMO-WEEN

While the rest of the country will be dressing up to look like the un-dead, we thought we would keep the scare factor to a minimum and glam it up a notch.

So here are a few Katie Rowland pieces from the Lilith collection to quench your thirst.

With this silver fang ring, you can still get into the spirit (no pun inteded) of Halloween, without going overboard on the plastic fangs and fake blood
!

The mix of gold and rose gold in this make this piece immediately recognisable, and would even light up that black outfit you are being forced to wear.

KATIE ROWLAND JEWELLERY FEATURED IN STELLA UK AND YOU MAGAZINES

It is always exciting when Katie Rowland Jewellery is featured in Magazines and the latest have been You Magazine and Stella Magazine, which comes as a suplement in The SundayTelegraph.

Thandie Newton on the cover of Stella Magazine

Check out the Katie Rowland smoky quartz earrings, which can be teamed up along with luxurious velvet pieces, for a season friendly look. We are loving the Marc By Marc Jacobs velvet clutch- it can work as a day clutch and an evening one.

The always stunning Liz Hurley on the cover of You Magazine

You Magazine went for the gold LOVE knuckleduster ring, to add some spice to this gothic jewellery shoot. The models deep plum lipstick is a great autumnal look, without going overboard.

Special thanks to Kate Rose Morris, who styles the Stella Magazine shoot- and also Caroline Baker for styling the You Magazine shoot!

Jewellery featured in You Magazine is available at Liberty of London, and the rest is available on request at orders@katierowland.com.

'HASAN HEJAZI LOVES KATIE ROWLAND SS11' - PARIS

Rising fashion designer Hasan Hejazi and award-winning jeweller Katie Rowland collaborate for Spring/Summer 2011 and design a refined jewellery collection that exudes restrained extravagance.

The collaborative range draws inspiration from Hejazi’s S/S11 fashion collection. Metal buckles have replaced traditional clasps, toning with the buckles within his dresses and separates. The dark colour palette of the intricate beading combines textured reflective stones like blue sand stone and labradorite, with gun metal and charcoal silvers. The decadent mix of rock cuffs and collars compliments Hejazi’s plush fuchsia and magenta evening dresses.

Ambitious statement pieces make their debut, intense necklaces and their matching cuffs with lava stone, hematite and pearls. Rowland’s fine-knotted black pearls resurfaces alongside draped chain necklaces. Rowland combines pearls, semi precious stones and gunmetal chains to give the collection a refined edge.

Rowland will be showcasing her collaborative work, alongside her own SS11 collection 'Lilith' in Paris. To view the collections or for further information, please contact the sales team:

YASMIN KIANFAR - 'THE' DESIGNER FOR SS11

I had the pleasure of meeting with new talent, Yasmin Kianfar, at Vauxhall Fashion Scout during London Fashion Week and was one of the lucky ladies who got to wear one of her fabulous dresses (even before Cheryl Cole got her mitts on it!). Kianfar is a womenswear designer who graduated this year from Central St. Martins, she has already achieved a celebrity following and her graduate SS11 collection based upon 1920's eroticism, was snapped up exclusively by Browns Focus. Not bad for a 23 year old. Has all this gone to her head? Absolutely not, she is probably one of the most humble people I have ever met.

The stunning dress which I was lucky enough to wear is pictured below.

JEWELLERY CARE UPDATE - GIRLS, COLA IS TO DRINK, NOT TO USE TO CLEAN YOUR JEWELLERY WITH!

I often get asked by friend's, what's the best way to care for silver and plated jewellery. One friend told me recently that she had looked up methods of cleaning her silver and plated jewellery on the internet and had come back with recommendations of using household items such as, toothpaste, cola and vinegar.

Now I have heard of toothpaste, but it's not something I would chose to use!
Toothpaste is abrasive, so don't use this on plated items as it will wear the plating away. I have also heard of using cola and vinegar too, as they're acidic and will eat away at any tarnish or oxidation that has occurred on silver jewellery (there is a BUT, coming up!). BUT, I don't recommend using such products on jewellery, silver, plated or otherwise, and here's why...

I had a couple of old silver rings that I'd plated with rose gold and I showed her what happens when you put them in cola and in vinegar to clean. The ring I put in cola turned pinker and then yellow, because the acid in the cola had attacked the copper in the rose gold plating (copper is a metal we add to yellow gold to make the lovely pinky colour of rose gold). The other ring which I put in vinegar, again went pinker in colour, and then when we rubbed it to dry the ring...the pink rubbed away, leaving it yellow.

If this is what it does to metal, who knows what it does to your insides! Eeeeek!

Girls, my advice to you - is if you really want to use such readily available household products please, please, please test them on a small, inconspicuous area first. But be warned - you might not get the 'clean' result you expect!
The best products to use are jewellery dips, such as Hagerty's, and jewellery cloths. Please follow the guidelines which come with these products and the care leaflet that comes with your jewellery. Oh, and remember, if you are a pearl girl, only clean them with a very soft damp cloth and leave to air dry. Any sort of chemicals are a no-no for these babies.

So, the moral of the story is, cola is for drinking, vinegar is for your chips and toothpaste is for cleaning your teeth afterward. Let's keep it that way.

Katie x

London Jewellery Week

Katie Rowland Jewellery is set to exhibit at TREASURE, the cornerstone event of London Jewellery Week 2010. Here, Rowland will be presenting her SS11 pre-collection 'Lilith'.
The collection, ‘Lilith’, is an embodiment of female divinity and unabated lust. The biblical idol ‘Lilith’, from which Rowland has drawn inspiration, is a winged temptress of the night, with an appetite for debauchery. Alluring warm red and yellow golds dominate the collection, reflecting themes of worship through seduction and sin.
